Your mission - should you choose to accept it....
Choice One
What do you see on ANZAC Day? Possibly a solemn Dawn Service, and some form of march or ceremony. Your school may have a liturgy or a Mass. If you look at your local war memorial, you will see flowers and wreaths for remembrance of those who died.
Imagine that you were an outsider, a visitor to New Zealand, here during an ANZAC Day. You have to try and understand what it is about, and what ‘messages’ about New Zealand it gives. Does ANZAC Day now apply to all New Zealander's—to men, women, children, people of different ethnic origins, recent migrants? Is it an all-encompassing day? Carry out a survey of the day. Consider such things as:
Who is actively involved
Who watches
What symbols are present
Where events are focused
What music is associated with the day
What words are used about them
How it is commented on by the media
What ideas are associated with it.
ANZAC Day What does it mean to you today?
New Zealand has other national days—such as Waitangi Day and Queen’s Birthday. Some have suggested that we should celebrate a New Zealand Day.
You can work in groups or individually, have a think about how you would explain ANZAC day and its importance to New Zealanders to someone who was not from our country
You may choose how you present your work: PPt, Keynote, Prezi etc
Gather your information first and we will have a look at some cool tools you can use to present. Some of you may choose to create a poster online/or from paper. You can do anything you like as long as it is able to be shared.
